(this is my new favorite kids movie, so I was more than happy to help!) So I went over the day before the party and helped her with decorating it. It was pretty easy since she had already baked the cake and bought the Rapunzel doll for it. I just had to use the doll for reference on the dress.
I had seen a cake made by sweetapolita that featured cake decorations made to look like paper/scrapbooking embellishments. I thought it was adorable and decided to use that on this cake. It was a lot of fun to do and I hope to be able to try it again.
A lot has been happening around here. We found out that we are expecting baby #5 and spent the next few months finding a bigger house to fit our family, renting out our other house, and moving to another one. Add to that the start of another homeschooling year and posting photos of cakes has been way down on the priority list!

Anyhow, this was made for Hank who is a very talented musician and was graduating from high school. His mom surprised him with a cake of his guitar and decorations in his school colors (no, orange and blue is not my typical color combination!) He seemed to really like the cake and so did his friends who were there when I delivered it. I have to give my husband props on most of this cake. He helped with the guitar neck construction, cake board and tuner knobs. Couldn't have done it without him!
The baby shower theme as night time/bed time stories.

Loved decorating the little baby. It's from a mold I have, but I got to add girly touches this time, a little ruffled diaper cover and a flowered headband. So cute!

The cake was a little 6" one that had 30 cupcakes that went with it.
I had the duck cake due the same day and I had already bought him a toothless toy he wanted, so I figured, why stress myself out?! Instead of trying to sculpt Toothless I decided to use the toy. Yep, I took the easy way out.

He was happy, I was happy...good decision. :) (oh and ignore the uncovered cake board, another shortcut. My poor kids get the short end of the stick I'm afraid. I take shortcuts on their cakes that I would never do on someone else's!)

Ended up having Happy Birthday Joshua on the top, but I didn't get a picture with that.

Bath time is Joshua's favorite activity, so a bath time cake was a good fit for him!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip cake with cookies and cream filling. Marshmallow fondant to cover and for accents. Duck is a rice crispy treat covered in MMF. I used white shimmer dust all over the cake.

The crib rails are chocolate, and the baby is from a fondant mold (which I now love...I want to buy tons and tons of molds now!)
For her 3rd birthday this is what she asked for. It was just a small party so we still have cake left over days later (not that I'm complaining!)

The cinderella doll in the center was one of her gifts. This isn't the best picture, sorry!

He was turning one and his mom wanted an airplane cake. I loved the bright colors of this one! So cute for a boys first birthday. The little cupcake was for Isaac to smash...and smash he did! blue icing everywhere!

Quinn couldn't decide what his favorite characters were so I added as many as I could fit. I believe I have now fallen in love with painting on cakes! It was fast, fun, effective, and came out great!

Oh, and I invented a new recipe for Cookies and cream filling that's to die for. My new favorite filling!!!! Pair it with the chocolate/chocolate chip cake and well...and let's just say I hope they serve this in Heaven!

MamaBaerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15882827263289165232noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5372556049556690073.post-60356936919468522352011-02-15T09:54:00.000-08:002011-02-15T09:54:03.611-08:00SweetheartsThis cake was made for a Bridal Shower that happened to be close to Valentine's Day. Since they were going with the Valentine's theme for the decor, I suggested we make a conversation hearts cake and feature the bride and groom, their wedding date, honeymoon location, etc. on the hearts. It turned out great! My only regret was that since the temperature here was freezing, my garage fridge was so cold it was like putting the cake in the freezer overnight (the filling needed refrigeration). When I pulled it out in the morning for delivery, the black lettering on the side began to bleed from the fondant sweating. grrrrr!!!! but it could have been worse! At least the rest of the stuff stayed need and clean.

I learned a lot with this one too. 1. that the Aussie cake makers have it right! Ganache under fondant is so much easier to work with!!!! 2. in making a box like this, royal icing can work like spackle and fill cracks and corners! 3. white food coloring is AWESOME!!!! Gotta give God the credit on this one. I tried a lot of new techniques, which could have gone badly, but He definitely helped me through this one. (especially when working on it at 4:00am when the mind wasn't quite so sharp!)

His mom gave me free rein on this cake (love that!!!) I liked the idea of making oversized Legos. Simple idea, but fun. Who doesn't want to eat a giant Lego? The birthday boy loved it! (sorry the picture isn't better)
I love how it turned out except that from one angle the top tier looks like it's leaning...and the photo just happens to show that angle. oh well!

top two tiers were pumpkin cake with cream cheese icing, the bottom tier was chocolate/chocolate chip cake with chocolate mousse filling, and there were two extra cakes (not shown) that were White Almond Sour cream cake with lemon filling.
She loves horses and requested a horse cake to go along with the theme. She wanted it to look like her favorite horse toy. I didn't have much time, so I used a horse mold pan instead of hand sculpting something.
It was of his backyard pond, his tractor, and a deer. Not sure if the deer was because they have a lot in their backyard, or if it's because he likes hunting them, but either way, he liked the cake!
Triplets are on the way - thankfully, not for me! The baby shower theme was safari and the cake turned out pretty cute for it. I love making the little animals peeking out of the jungle leaves. This was a take off on another jungle birthday cake I did a while ago. They saw it and asked for something similar with two tiers and different colors.
The monkeys on top represented the 2 boys and girl they were having.
So we did a barnyard cake for her 2nd birthday. I borrowed Bella Cupcakes design for the cow since it's so darn cute! The rest I made up as I went. Loved making this one!
This was my first cupcake tower. I liked the impact it had with less effort too! Strawberry and Custard, her cat are hand molded out of fondant.
It featured her favorite things from iphone and ipod to the grand piano she loves to play.

Congratualtions Rebecca! We are so proud of you! in French and her favorite bible verses were piped along the bottom tier.
